Post Let's Talk Cars: Any Comments About Your Auto?

Let's talk automotive. I miss my fellow grease monkey buddies, so you guys get to take their place for now.

Anyone have any questions...comments concerning their automobile? Any? Not everyone at once.

Yes...you in the back. You had a comment?

Well, I'm reasonably happy with my Beamer. I'm happy when I'm driving it, anyway. I'm happy when I'm wringing it out. And I'm particularly happy with it when I ride some sports car's ass through a twisty section of road and they look back to see my behemoth of a vehicle having no problems keeping up with them.

Of course, real sports cars will dust it, but your average non-Bimmer sports sedan won't, nor will a lot of your cheap semi-sport sports cars.

What I don't like is that the thing is crumbling around me, that it guzzles gas, and that it's just big. My Beemers get a lot more attention than my other Beimmer these days, and that's aided by the fact that things are breaking on it. It needs new lower-front control arm bushings. It needs new tires (I've got those; I just have to get them mounted.) It needs the ventilation system fixed. It needs the rear driver's side window mechanism fixed. And it needs the telescoping steering wheel motor fixed. Of course, the $770 payment I make every month hurts a bit when it's got $2000 in work it needs. And the $100 per month in insurance I pay hurts a lot, when it doesn't get driven but about 500 miles each month, if that.

That said, the BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG a.k.a. Bavarian Motor Works) actually requires more work. Oil changes every 6K. I've got around 3500 miles on the tires, and they're about due for a new set... And I just put the current ones on mid-May. I need to check the valve clearances soon, too. But it's a lot more rewarding.
