Post Nielsen Ratings: Should I Watch With a LCD or Plasma Television?

i got selected to participate in nielsen tv ratings. they're going to pay me $600 bucks to hook a ratings box to my tv.

i'm gonna use this money to buy a new tv. what do you guys think of lcd tvs? what brands are good? or should i just go all out and get a plasma and hdtv?

plasma is great, but it takes up a lot of electricity.

and if one pixel blows, it can never be fixed.

i highly recommend getting hdtv, but only if you have hdtv cable or sat. most tvs these days are hdtv capable. you dont need to get a tuner with it...thats definitely a couple of years away.

getting a 16:9 tv is definitely definitely worth the money. dvds look awesome on them.

i would suggest the samsung dlp. best picture without the cost of plasma or lcd. its thinner than a projection but the screen size of one with much better picture quality.

I heard Sharp is good also, they are the leader in LDC TV industry now.

I'd buy a dlp (dynamic light projection) tv. They're relatively thin, and they're probably the best value in big screen sets. I have two rear projection hd sets ( a mitshubishi 55" and 65") and I absolutely love them, but conveging can be a pain, and they're HUGE. I got these sets a couple of years ago, and while the picture for hd signals is just as good as on a plasma or lcd, I'd definitly have gotten dlp sets if I was buying now. Not having to converge the sets ever would be nice. . .

Keep in mind these plasma HD sets have a finite picture quality half-life. If you watch enough TV to justify spending that kind of cash, expect the colors on a plasma set to look washed out and fuzzy after 12-18 months of use.

Nothing out there comes remotely close to the picture quality of a good CRT.
