Default First Job Words of Wisdom for a Law Student

Now a college grad, I will be starting my first real job this week. Most of you have been in the workplace for a while, so I'd really appreciate some words of wisdom in regards to how to treat your work and how to do a good job, etc. (Nothing sarcastic, like @#!* your coworker or kiss the boss's ass (unless you really mean it)). Any tidbit would be much appreciated

Seriously, network. Get to know the bigwigs and spend some quality time with them. While I'm not advocating purely kissing ass, cause then everyone will say you're only a kissass, I am saying know who affects life at your company and make nice. It's not what you know, it's who you know. Once you're in, then you can show them what you know.

Second, do good work. No, I'm not saying you can't bull every once in a while, but whenever you turn in product, make sure it's the best you've got. That way, no one can say you don't know poo and you're only there because you kiss ass (see above).

Otherwise, I know you know they watch your internet usage and can track your sites, so no porn, no private emails you don't want your boss reading, and if you ever have a personal problem with anyone, don't send it in an email. Take care of it in person so there's no misunderstanding and, most importantly, no record!!!

    Get out those kneepads...

Kiss some ass, shine some shoes, bend a little more back

and when you're finished asked if you've missed a spot.

It'll make your life a lot easier and theres nothing wrong with ass kissing cuz everyone has to do it.

another thing u should do is work ur @$$ off as much as u can the first few weeks u r there to prove ur abilities at ur job...then after that u can start slacking and whenever new management comes in remember to use the same process. the trick is only doin enough to prove urself and not overextending or overproving which will compel ur boss to pile more work on u because he trusts u and then in turn no longer appreciating ur effort...u need to walk the fine line between an excellent employee and one who becomes taken for granted...

    hmm...reminds me of a relationship...
